The Faculty of Biology and Medicine (FBM) and the Lausanne University Hospital (CHUV) are offering a position for:
Physician, Head of the Addiction Medicine Service with professorial rank in the field of psychiatric and somatic addictions
Start date: October 2026 or by agreement Location: Lausanne, Switzerland
Context
The Addiction Medicine Service (SMA) covers one of the main missions of the Department of Psychiatry (DP) at CHUV, whose objective is to prevent and treat addiction-related disorders. Clinical care and academic activities of training and research conducted within SMA are priorities. In the context of a university hospital, addiction medicine provides a solid academic basis for guidelines on addiction and mental health, safe and effective clinical interventions in the community, outpatient consultations, and hospitalizations of the affected population. Training the next generation of specialists in psychiatric and somatic addictions, it maintains close collaborations with Somatic Services.
Mission
Main missions:
- Lead the service and ensure overall medical responsibility
- Organize and supervise care and interventions in addiction medicine
- Coordinate undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing education teaching
- Develop and guide academic activities related to the university mission
- Create a hospital-academic succession and ensure an institutional role at the DP and CHUV
Note: As part of the ongoing structural reorganization of the DP, the scope of the Service is expected to evolve and consequently, the new leadership will be involved in this process.
Profile
Desired profile:
- Medical degree (Swiss or recognized MEBEKO title mandatory); MD or MD-PhD
- Two possible profiles:
- o Specialist title in general internal medicine (ISFM or recognized MEBEKO mandatory)
- o Specialist title in psychiatry and psychotherapy (ISFM or recognized MEBEKO mandatory)
- Addictions: Additional training such as Advanced Training in Addiction Psychiatry (ISFM or equivalent), Continuing Education Certificate in Addiction Medicine, or the European Addiction Medicine Diploma (EAMD).
- Strong clinical experience in addiction medicine, in managing major clinical projects and ability to develop new ones
- Recognized managerial skills in leading and managing a large/multisite team and extensive project management experience
- Academic knowledge and expertise at professorial level with proven practice in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and ability to establish clinical research programs supported by expert external funding
- Good knowledge of French (native speaker or ideally C1, minimum B2 with ability to acquire quickly).
- Strong institutional commitment and a strong ability to unite and motivate collaborators
- History demonstrating impeccable professional conduct: the selected candidate must provide all guarantees of integrity and compliance with the legal and regulatory requirements of the position.
