About the job
The SCHAFFHAUSER SPECIAL SCHOOLS are an independent public-law institution of the canton of Schaffhausen. More than 480 children and young people with physical and/or cognitive impairments, with speech, hearing, or other profound developmental disabilities are currently taught and supported integratively in the regular schools of the canton or separately at four locations in the city of Schaffhausen. In addition to various therapy offerings, we run a school-complementary area with lunch service, day structure, and boarding school. Over 570 employees are committed in various functions at the SCHAFFHAUSER SPECIAL SCHOOLS.
Starting immediately or from February 2026, we are looking for a Specialist Caregiver EFZ with a workload of 50-70% at our Granatenbaumgut school building.
You assist in teaching classes with up to seven students. This applies to our school area for children and young people with intellectual disabilities and multiple disabilities. The students learn in mixed classes. Their abilities and interests are taken into account. The goal is to strengthen their personality and promote them in various areas.
You work in a school team with special education teachers, subject teachers, speech therapists, medical therapists, as well as assistants. You help the students with daily tasks, promote skill acquisition, and take on tasks on their behalf if necessary.
You contribute to the planning and preparation of activities in everyday school life, help organize class events, and accompany the students to physical education and other internal and external activities.
You take partial responsibility in working with the children and young people. You pay attention to their strengths and resources and reinforce them. You respond confidently to challenging behaviors and guide the students towards appropriate social behavior.
Training as a Specialist Caregiver EFZ or a related qualification in the social field is a prerequisite for employment in this role. Our employment conditions are based on the cantonal personnel law.
