To support research and teaching, the IT Services of ETH Zurich operate as a service organization in a large and complex IT environment. We offer the members of ETH Zurich high-quality, flexible, and scalable IT services and thus support them in competing with the best universities in the world.
Project Background
The ID Infrastructure section (INFRA) is responsible for the data and voice networks of ETH Zurich as well as for their planning, installation, and maintenance. It is also responsible for services in the areas of storage, virtual servers/containers, multimedia equipment in lecture halls, video productions, and recordings of courses.
Help us shape the future of the large on-premises online storage infrastructure (NAS - NFS/CIFS/S3 and WebDav) at one of the world’s leading technical universities. As a team leader for online storage systems, you will lead a central IT group with highly qualified specialists. You will significantly influence how research data at ETH Zurich is stored, managed, classified, and further developed – both technologically and organizationally.
Job Description
Within the group:
- Personnel management of all 5-7 employees of the Online Storage group
- Technical leadership focusing on technological development, including the further development of the service architecture, service design, and associated processes
- Financial responsibility for the Online Storage group including FTE planning in coordination with the section management and controlling
- Active participation in the further development of the storage service strategy
- Ensuring smooth operation of the services
- Planning and execution of all procurement processes according to public procurement law and internal financial regulations (supported by central procurement and the supervising section leader)
Outside the group and section:
- Participation and collaboration in storage architecture considering other ICT infrastructures network and compute/server (supported by the Infrastructure Architect and the Architecture Competence Center ACC)
- Representation of concerns and projects in the department management, supported by section management
- Participation in information security topics and definition of BCM requirements for storage and recovery (supported by the central BC manager)
- Maintaining contact with suppliers and integrators
Profile
For successful execution of these demanding tasks, we expect, in addition to a completed university of applied sciences degree in computer science or related fields, the following skills:
- Leadership experience of small to medium (project) teams, where you see central ETH values such as inclusion, empowerment of employees, respectful interaction, and appreciation as a matter of course
- Many years of experience in online storage (NFS, CIFS and advantageously also S3 and SAN)
- Very good German and English skills
- Openness to change and innovation considering strategic goals and framework conditions
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Knowledge in financial management, project management, and public procurement law is an advantage
