Due to the retirement of the current post holder, we are looking for a committed, professionally competent, and strong leadership personality to lead our student advisory service by agreement.
The student advisory service at the University of Basel supports pupils, prospective students, and students in choosing their studies, studying, and career planning, offers psychological counseling, creates informational materials, organizes information events and school visits, and works closely with schools as well as university and cantonal partner institutions. It continuously develops its offerings and integrates contemporary digital solutions.
Your Tasks
In this central role, you lead the student advisory service on behalf of the University and the Canton of Basel-Stadt and strategically develop its offerings. You take on the operational and professional leadership of a team of advisors as well as library and information staff and ensure a modern, accessible, and high-quality advisory service. The student advisory service is located in the Vice-Rectorate for Teaching.Focus areas of your activity:
- Advising Basel-Stadt pupils, prospective students, and students on study choice, studies, and career planning
- Counseling students with psychological concerns
- Creating and further developing informational materials (print/online)
- Regional coordination and collaboration with other student advisory services and in national committees
- Organizing information events, school visits, and large events
- Maintaining contacts with cantonal secondary schools, the Department of Education, and other partner institutions
- Networking with service centers and institutes of the university
- Responsibility for budget, annual report, and statistical evaluations
- Further development of digital offerings and formats
- Recruitment, promotion, and professional support of employees
- Negotiations in the area of third-party funding and departmental research projects
Your Profile
- Master's degree in psychology, ideally with a doctorate
- Further training in career, study, and career counseling
- Several years of professional experience in student advisory services as well as in the academic sector
- Experience in counseling people with psychological concerns
- Very good knowledge of the Swiss higher education landscape
- Proven leadership experience
- High advisory competence, communication skills, and enjoyment in working with diverse stakeholders
