Children's / Squint Consultation
Parents can significantly contribute by careful observation to ensure that visual impairments in children are detected and treated early.
In case of doubt, you can talk to your pediatrician or make an appointment in our specialist consultation.
The scope of the ophthalmologist's work
Ms. Françoise Roulez, FMH, specializes in the treatment of eye diseases in preschool children, particularly in:
the detection and treatment of refractive problems in children
the detection and treatment of amblyopia and strabismus
the detection and treatment (possibly in cooperation with other centers) of congenital eye diseases in children, such as cataract, coloboma (cleft formation of iris, lens, eyelid or choroid), retinitis pigmentosa, etc.
Treatments of eye inflammations in children, such as conjunctivitis, allergies, uveitis.
The scope of the orthoptists
Our orthoptist, Ms. Marylin Briand, mainly deals with the detection and treatment of
strabismus
amblyopia
problems of binocular cooperation
nystagmus and
dysfunctions of the eye muscles
Orthoptists treat people of all ages: from four-month-old infants to seniors. They are specialists in diagnosing and adequately treating visual development disorders (of your child). Accordingly, they mostly work in an ophthalmologist's practice or an eye clinic and collaborate closely with the ophthalmologist.
Visual defects in the family?
If visual defects (glasses wearers, squinting) are known in your family, it is advisable to have a preventive eye examination – even if you notice no abnormalities. The examination is covered by health insurance.
