The Experimental Animal Center (EAC) of the University of Bern is the structural unit responsible for in-vivo research. The EAC ensures optimal conditions for animal experiments to guarantee the best possible quality of basic, translational, and clinical research with animals. The 3Rs (Reduce, Refine, Replace), the "Culture of Care," and compliance with guidelines and regulations are the cornerstones of the EAC's strategy.
Tasks
- Management of the infrastructure and equipment of the animal housing facilities according to internal, national, and international guidelines.
- Maintenance of inventory, equipment, facilities, machines, and records related to operations, ensuring proper functioning of facility equipment and coordinating repairs and maintenance. Main contact person for suppliers.
- Ensuring appropriate technical training, supervision, and evaluation of staff; leading a team of 10 employees.
- Ensuring that sufficient consumables are always available to support animal husbandry operations and facility maintenance.
- Support in quality assurance measures to check the hygiene of animal housing facilities, water quality, and sterilization chambers.
- Development and revision of SOPs for animal housing facilities in collaboration with the heads of the individual animal husbandries. Ensuring compliance with SOPs, quality assurance guidelines, and protocols.
- Central support and participation in the further development of the procurement system.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in biology, a related field, or a university degree in a technical profession related to the healthcare sector.
- At least 3 years of professional experience in animal housing facilities or veterinary or human medical environment.
- Experience in procurement is an advantage.
- Initiative, communicative, resilient, and service-oriented leadership personality.
- Willingness to collaborate across companies with various stakeholders and innovation development.
- Very good English and/or German skills; additional languages are an advantage.
