About the job
We are looking for an animal caretaker for laboratory animals at the Experimental Animal Center (EAC) to start immediately or by arrangement.
The position is initially limited to 1 year with the option of extension.
The laboratory animal facilities of the Experimental Animal Center (EAC) breed and keep rodents, rabbits, and fish for biomedical research at the University of Bern in compliance with legal and ethical guidelines and regulations, the 3R (Reduce, Refine, Replace) principle, and the "Culture of Care".
Tasks
• Professional animal care as well as monitoring and recording animal health
• Breeding of genetically modified laboratory animals
• Maintaining hygiene status
• Recording animal data in the IT system
• Specific services (i.e. taking skin biopsies for genotyping)
• Cleaning of materials, equipment, and rooms according to hygiene requirements
• Assistance in operational maintenance of equipment as well as in goods receipt and storage
• Animal care service on a rotating basis on weekends and public holidays
Requirements
• Completed vocational training in animal care or in the agricultural sector
• Sense of responsibility towards the entrusted animals
• Reliability, quick comprehension, resilience, as well as precise and efficient working methods
• The agile service operation requires a communicative working style, flexibility, and enjoyment of teamwork
• Knowledge of IT (MS Word and MS Excel)
• Good German skills, English skills (level A2) are an advantage
