METAS – or the Federal Institute of Metrology – is the reference institute in Switzerland for measurements and measuring instruments. To ensure that a litre is always a litre (for example when you fill up), METAS carries out calibrations, conformity assessments and provides advice to the economy, research and administration. A trusted source, especially socially and politically, metrological accuracy is essential in many fields: road traffic, electricity billing, time dissemination, measurements for the environment and health, etc. In short, at METAS, disciplines have been meeting and interacting since 1862.
Your new challenges
- lead the internal service responsible for all matters relating to national and international metrological law and provide legal advice, particularly in administrative law, contract law and procedural law
- draft and review contracts, legal opinions and reports, especially on behalf of management
- manage the Legal Department and its two employees regarding specialised topics, finances, personnel and organisation
- lead legislative projects in the field of metrology and contribute to the development of the legal framework, support the preparation of opinions during consultations with offices
- conduct proceedings and draft decisions and petitions addressed to courts
Your profile
- university degree in law and ideally additional qualifications such as a lawyer’s certificate, doctorate or foreign degree (e.g. LL.M.)
- at least 10 years of professional experience in a court, administration or law firm; in-depth knowledge of federal administration legal procedures, proven expertise in public law and experience in legislation and collaboration with Swiss and foreign authorities
- leadership, communication and negotiation skills, team spirit, diplomacy and political intuition; solution-oriented with results always in mind, conceptual and systemic thinking and a taste for interdisciplinary collaboration; ability to handle pressure while remaining calm even under tight deadlines
- excellent writing skills in at least one official language, good active command of a second official language and English, and if possible, passive knowledge of a third official language
- responsible and pragmatic personality, customer service orientation
