The City of Langenthal forms the center of the Bernese Oberaargau with a catchment area of around 80,000 people and, with around 16,300 inhabitants, is the eighth largest municipality in the canton of Bern. The city is constantly developing as an economic, social, and cultural center.
Senior Project Manager Urban Planning (80%-90%)
The Urban Development Department in the City Construction Office is responsible for the spatial and traffic development of the city and creates the conceptual and landowner-binding foundations. Large projects are underway in the Urban Development Department, in which the future of Langenthal is to be actively shaped.

This is your job
- You participate in the ongoing local planning revision and help to set the strategic course for the spatial development of the city of Langenthal.
- You lead projects and are responsible for demanding planning ordinance procedures (especially development plans) from conception to approval.
- You design and accompany quality assurance procedures (e.g., study commissions or competitions according to SIA) and ensure a high urban planning quality.
- In your projects, you put people at the center. You integrate social aspects, promote a high quality of stay, and ensure user-friendly design of public spaces.
- As a competent contact person, you advise landowners, investors, and political bodies and represent the city's interests vis-à-vis regional and cantonal authorities.
What you bring with you
- You have a degree in spatial planning, geography (ETH/FH/Uni), or a comparable qualification with several years of professional experience in Swiss spatial planning.
- You are well-versed in planning and building laws and have successfully managed projects through quality assurance procedures.
- You understand urban planning as the design of living space. It is important to you to incorporate social sustainability and societal trends into planning.
- You bring a healthy dose of curiosity and willingness to learn. You enjoy working on complex new topics and shaping urban development innovatively.
- You convince through negotiation skills and a confident appearance in various stakeholder groups.
