Profile
The EOC Emergency Medicine and Emergency Department Service (SMU EOC) is located in Lugano and Bellinzona (multidisciplinary category 1 training center), as well as in Mendrisio and Locarno (monodisciplinary category 2 training center).
The Lugano site also serves as a hub center for the Canton Ticino regarding time-dependent pathologies such as stroke, polytrauma, and ischemic heart disease.
Each head physician of the SMU EOC will be primarily assigned to one of the SMU EOC Emergency Departments (Bellinzona, Locarno, Lugano, Mendrisio) and will have the opportunity to rotate through the other sites.
Suitable candidates will be employed within an interdisciplinary team where they will carry out clinical activities and have the opportunity to conduct clinical research and training, also taking on organizational roles. The selected individuals will also have a tutoring role for doctors in training, as well as medical students from the University of Italian Switzerland.
Candidates will have broad and interesting training opportunities, ranging from weekly training sessions, simulation, discussion of complex clinical cases, to clinical toxicology lessons. They will also be able to attend courses such as ACLS, ATLS, POCUS, PALS, NIV and complete their training to obtain recognition as an emergency physician SMUSS if not already held.
Essential requirements:
- degree/diploma in medicine and specialization in internal medicine and/or surgery or equivalent title and related registration with MedReg before starting work. For doctors with foreign titles: recognition by the Federal Commission for Medical Professions MEBEKO and related registration with MedReg before starting work is mandatory
- proven knowledge of the Italian language (required level at least B2) with related registration with MedReg before starting work, knowledge of other national languages and English is desirable
- SMUSS emergency medical certificate is a preferred requirement
- clinical experience in recognized Swiss or foreign hospital institutions of at least two years, of which at least one in internal medicine or surgery
- relational, communication and negotiation skills with interest in the development of emergency medicine
- high proficiency in IT tools.
