Internship Monitoring of Hedges and Small Structures with Remote Sensing and GIS 80-100% (m/f/d)
The Landscape Dynamics research unit analyzes and assesses short- and long-term changes in the natural resources of built-up, managed, and near-natural landscapes. From January 1, 2026 or by arrangement, the Remote Sensing group offers a 6-month
The Remote Sensing group at WSL is involved in national and international research projects and monitoring programs. Remote sensing data from various sensors and platforms (drones, LiDAR, aerial images, satellite data) are used to assess and quantify changes in land cover and land use. As part of this internship, you will get to know these diverse projects and support the Remote Sensing group in data preparation and analysis.
The focus is on developing a method for nationwide monitoring of hedges and small structures, which are both important habitats and defining features of our cultural landscape. For this, you will use various raster and vector data, analyze them with GIS, R, or Python, and document your results in a report. This gives you the opportunity to work on current research topics at WSL and deepen your knowledge in land monitoring using remote sensing and GIS.
You have a bachelor's or master's degree in remote sensing, geography, environmental sciences, or a similar field. Furthermore, you have solid knowledge in remote sensing and GIS and are interested in environmental topics. Programming skills are an advantage. You work precisely, independently, and reliably and speak both German and English well.
