A PhD student position is available at the University of Bern, Switzerland, to join the research group of Prof. Elisa Maina (Department of Clinical Veterinary Medicine, Division of Clinical Dermatology) in collaboration with the Division of Veterinary Anatomy.
The successful candidate will work on research projects within the field of feline dermatology, with a particular focus on feline hypersensitivity syndrome. This will involve both clinical case work and laboratory-based investigations, with the aim of improving the understanding, diagnosis, and management of pruritic skin diseases in cats.
Responsibilities
• Acquire and consolidate advanced skills in clinical veterinary dermatology, with a focus on the diagnostic approach to cats with hypersensitivity syndrome.
• Recruitment and clinical evaluation of feline dermatology cases.
• Recording clinical data and lesion distribution using standardized tools.
• Collection of relevant biological samples.
• Participation in laboratory analyses in collaboration with the Division of Veterinary Anatomy and other partner laboratories.
• Data analysis, preparation of scientific manuscripts, and presentation of results at national and international conferences.
• Contribution to teaching and supervision of students in clinical or laboratory activities.
Requirements
• Master's degree (or equivalent) in veterinary medicine, biology, biomedical sciences, or a related field
• Strong interest in dermatology, neurobiology, and translational research
• Very good command of English (written and spoken); German and French is an advantage
• Motivation for independent research and teamwork
• Previous experience in microscopy, histology, molecular biology, or clinical dermatology is an asset but not mandatory.
