The internship is attached to the radiation protection group, which is part of the Medical Directorate of the HUG. The group’s mission is to ensure the safety of employees professionally exposed to radiation at the HUG as well as the safety of the public present in the institution’s premises. The performance of examinations using ionizing radiation in many sectors (for example, radioguided interventions, CT scans, etc.) notably involves implementing physical protection measures to attenuate radiation.
Job Description
The position is attached to the radiation protection group, composed of a radiation protection engineer and a radiation protection technician. The HUG radiation protection group is notably responsible for managing the operating authorization files issued by the Federal Office of Public Health. This applies to all activities related to the use of radiation within the institution. The HUG currently holds 157 federal authorizations, and for each one, a file containing various documents must be created, validated, and maintained over time.
This internship is part of a project aimed at reviewing the organization of architectural radiation protection.
During this internship, your objective is to update the files, particularly the radiation protection plans and shielding calculations for examination rooms according to Swiss legal requirements.
You will create an Excel tool allowing faster execution of shielding calculations and be involved in the redesign reflections of the system (considerations on the process, the recording system, etc.).
Qualifications
You are currently enrolled in a university Master’s program (1st or 2nd year) and are looking for an internship in the field of radiation protection.
You have skills in radiation protection, particularly in shielding calculations, and knowledge of the medical environment.
You are autonomous and have good interpersonal skills to work with different professions (architects, radiation protection experts, etc.).
