Hitachi Energy Research, in close collaboration with business areas, is developing foundations for the next generation of Power Grids products. Located in the proximity of Zurich, the research center employs approximately 65 scientists from all over the world with cross-disciplinary expertise. In the System Integration and Physics Group, we perform cutting-edge research and look at various aspects of making the power system stronger, smarter and greener. We focus on the challenges and opportunities in enhancing grid flexibility and facilitating renewable energy proliferation. In this context, we offer an internship position which provides the opportunity of working on real-world projects in an international team of research scientists.
How you’ll make an impact

Develop electromagnetic models of EMC (electromagnetic compatibility) filter magnetics for high-frequency applications

Analyse parasitic effects and perform accurate loss calculations

Design and implement experimental test set up to verify and validate the developed models

Collaborate with experts in a multi-disciplinary research team

Present progress updates and results and write technical reports

Contribute to scientific publications
Your background
-
Currently pursuing an MSc degree in physics, electrical engineering, applied mathematics, or a similar subject – official enrolment is essential

Fluent English language, both written and spoken

Good understanding of electromagnetics and circuit theory. Basic knowledge of power electronics is a plus

Experience with simulation and modelling with MATLAB or Python. Knowledge of multi-physics software, such as COMSOL or CST would be a plus

Enthusiastic, motivated and curious team player with good organizational skills

Availability for six months, with the possibility of further extension
