Job Description
The ideal apprenticeship for young adults with a knack for animals and an interest in research!
In this varied apprenticeship, you will be involved in the following activities:
- Daily care, maintenance, and breeding of laboratory animals in different hygiene barriers (including cage changes, food and water changes, setting up breeding and removal of young animals, etc.) including health monitoring
- Receipt of internal and external animal shipments as well as organization and execution of animal shipping including checking delivery papers and hygiene certificates
- Collection of blood, feces, urine, and tissue samples for hygiene control and genotyping of mouse strains as well as performing the necessary applications of substances on the laboratory animals during experiments
- Ensuring the greatest possible welfare of the animals in consultation with the responsible animal protection/veterinarian and by attending ongoing internal training sessions
- Documentation of laboratory animals and the work performed according to animal protection guidelines in the electronic database as well as recording reports of any diseases
The training lasts 3 years and mainly takes place on the ETH Hönggerberg campus.
Profile
You are skilled in handling animals and have the necessary sensitivity in care and husbandry. In addition, you have good observation skills, are attentive, patient, reliable, and responsible. Furthermore, you are physically resilient and possess motor skills.
You need a compulsory school leaving certificate for this apprenticeship and good grades in the following school subjects:
