Supervisor / Caregiver - Preliminary Detention 80 - 100% - Career Changers Welcome
At Zurich West Prison, we care for people in one of the most challenging phases of their lives: immediately after arrest. As a Supervisor / Caregiver – Preliminary Detention, you take responsibility for safety, order, and care, thereby making a valuable contribution to society.
You are empathetic, yet consistent, and enjoy working in direct contact with people from diverse backgrounds? Then we look forward to getting to know you.
Preliminary Detention – the first point of contact at Zurich West Prison (GZW):
At GZW, we operate 365 days a year in shift work. In the Preliminary Detention department, you are the first contact person for detainees after arrest and ensure that safety, care, and structure are guaranteed from the start.
- You accompany detainees in particularly stressful situations such as detention shock, suicidality, or after personal crises, and organize their daily routine within clearly defined structures
- You monitor all security-relevant processes; from the admission of new persons to cell inspections and operation of technical systems
- You conduct body searches, secure evidence, check personal effects, and accompany detainees, including those with psychological, physical, or addiction-related burdens
- In crisis situations, you respond competently and responsibly and also independently take responsibility for several departments during night shifts
- You work closely with the interdisciplinary care team and jointly develop sustainable solutions for care
- Written documentation and reporting are part of your daily routine, as well as conveying house rules and enforcing applicable regulations
What you bring
- You are at least 25 years old, have a vocational qualification (EFZ or journeyman's certificate), and have no entries in the criminal or debt register
- You have at least 3 years of general professional experience; further training as a specialist in correctional services is an advantage. Career changers are welcome.
- You have very good German language skills in speaking and writing; oral foreign language skills are a plus
- You have MS Office user skills and confidently handle digital tools
- The job requires shift work (including day, night, weekend, and on-call duties) as well as a high level of physical and mental resilience
- You are communicative, capable of handling conflicts, and resilient even in emotionally demanding situations. At the same time, you bring high social competence, assertiveness, and enjoyment in working with people from diverse backgrounds
What you benefit from
- Zurich West Prison is centrally located next to Hardbrücke, giving you excellent public transport connections
- You can expect a well-thought-out introduction and a large range of part-time training and further education in theory and practice
- A lunch check card and an excellent staff restaurant
- 24/7 access to the PJZ fitness area enables you to achieve the perfect work-life balance
- We offer you a fair, secure, and all-around good employment package
- You work meaningfully in a socially relevant environment
How to become part of us – five steps to employment
1) Application via our online tool
2) Online assessment
3) Virtual introduction with line management and HR
4) Personal meeting and trial day at GZW
5) Final decision
We are committed to bias-free application processes and therefore ask you to refrain from including a cover letter, photo, and information about your marital status in your application. For this reason, we also use an online assessment early in the process to evaluate applicants as objectively as possible.
