Supervisor / Caregiver GFL 100%
Correctional services and reintegration (JuWe) is part of the Directorate of Justice and the Interior of the Canton of Zurich and is responsible for penal and measure enforcement as well as the implementation of various types of detention. For our 1,400 employees from around 40 professions, the successful social reintegration of offenders and the prevention of recidivism are of particular importance.
The main department of remand prisons Zurich (UGZ) - one of seven main departments of JuWe - currently operates seven prisons for remand and security detention. One of these prisons is the Limmattal Prison (GFL), located in the district building Dietikon, which together with the Horgen Prison Department (GFH) offers 121 places for detainees. In addition to a department for adult detainees, the GFL has a strictly separated youth department as well as a crisis intervention department.
To complement our team in the adult department at Limmattal Prison, we are looking for a committed, open-minded, and humorous personality from January 1, 2026, temporarily until May 31, 2032.
This is your area of responsibility
- From admission to release, you are involved in the care, employment, and support of our detainees within the daily structures. You take on various functions and actively participate in their reintegration
- You perceive the detainee in the exceptional situation and are the first point of contact
- To ensure an orderly daily routine, you ensure compliance with and enforcement of our security and service regulations. When it matters, you recognize and manage crisis situations of detainees
- As part of our interdisciplinary team, you also take on administrative tasks - such as report writing and documentation of events – and participate in meetings and supervisions
This is what you bring
- You approach people in a coercive context with a holistic perception and build professional social relationships with them. You understand how to consciously regulate closeness and distance to detainees and handle crisis situations carefully and proactively
- You bring great enthusiasm for your new work environment and actively contribute to the development and design of detention conditions in remand custody
- You are mentally resilient and flexible working hours (shift, night, weekend, and holiday duties) are compatible with your other commitments
- Since obtaining your federal certificate of competence, (specialized) Matura, specialized middle school diploma, or an equivalent qualification, you have gained several years of professional experience in your field – ideally in a comparable position
- You express yourself well in German both in writing and speaking and ideally have knowledge of other languages
- You are proficient with the MS Office suite
- You are at least 25 years old and have an impeccable reputation (i.e., no relevant entries in the criminal or debt enforcement register)
This is what makes this position special
- You can look forward to a demanding, interesting, and varied activity as well as a reliable, supportive team
- After careful induction into this dynamic and extraordinary work environment, you can take advantage of various internal or external training opportunities - such as part-time training to become a specialist in correctional services with a federal certificate
- The workplace is centrally located and easily accessible by public transport
- JuWe offers attractive employment conditions according to cantonal guidelines
