The Cantonal School Glarus is the only secondary school in the canton and includes, in addition to a long gymnasium, a specialized secondary school as well as a sports school at the lower secondary level with a total of around 440 students. The school management consists of the principal, two vice principals, and the head of the sports school.
We are looking for a committed leader to head the Cantonal School as
Principal of the Cantonal School 100%
starting August 1, 2026, or by agreement.
Responsibilities
- Overall responsibility for the financial, organizational, and pedagogical management and further development of the school
- Assuming the direct or indirect supervisory role over the school management members, administrative staff, and technical employees
- Leadership of supervisors as well as teachers
- Ensuring flawless and effective operational management
- Planning of offerings, school, and resources
- Strategic positioning of the school as an educational institution within the canton and beyond
- Representation and embodiment of the school externally, towards parents, authorities, media, and the public
- Teaching activity in a very limited scope
Requirements
- Proven leadership experience with further training as a school principal or comparable management education
- Expertise and experience in project management and organizational development
- Enjoyment in tackling small and large challenges in a broad field of activity
- High resilience as well as flexibility in thinking and acting
- Presentation skills and assertiveness
- Qualification to teach at one of the managed school levels with several years of teaching experience
- Existing network in the canton of Glarus or ability and willingness to build one
