In the Kolingeviert Zug, one of the oldest neighborhoods outside the inner old town, several properties are owned by the city of Zug. In 2018, the properties Kolinplatz 19 and Kirchenstrasse 3+5 were renovated.
A referendum decided to preserve, restore, and later reinstall the historic buildings with their richly furnished rooms on the same site. The restored floor coverings were supplemented and color-matched with the materials commonly used at the time of construction. A complete renovation was created, which in the substructure meets today's requirements for fire protection, earthquake standards, and sound insulation. The charm of the spatial atmosphere of the past century had to be preserved. Therefore, all valuable panel and strip parquet floors were carefully removed.Repair and Modernization Kolingeviert, Zug

Planner:
Patrick Röösli, certified architect FH SIA Hans Hassler AG Zug received the order to restore all valuable parquet floors. In cooperation with architect Patrick Röösli, the restoration was carefully planned at the end of May 2018. This was followed by discussions, consultations, sampling, sketching, and scheduling. All valuable panel and strip parquet floors were carefully dismantled. On the back of the parquet, information about the manufacture from 1922 was discovered, suggesting that the parquet would be restored in the same workshop where it was originally made. The company was then called Geb. Risi, Alpnach-Dorf. After removing the old parquet, the individual strips were transported to our partner company Britschgi AG in Alpnach. The panel and strip parquet floors delivered in stacks were sorted, divided, de-nailed, glued, and profiled. We newly manufactured the damaged elements and supplemented them with matching elements. At the end of June 2018, we began reinstalling the dismantled parquet. The restored and newly prepared floors were installed in stages by our qualified floor layers on the subfloor construction, the surfaces sanded, and naturally oiled with oxidized oils from Rubio Monocoat. First, the mosaic panels in light/dark beech were laid diagonally with a wall border. In various rooms, we laid solid wood parquet in beech, dampened, in a herringbone pattern. In July 2018, we laid the old solid long strips in Douglas fir/spruce. Missing strips were supplemented with new raw wood, dampened, and color-matched to the existing strips. In August 2018, the installation of the corner-border panels in walnut/spruce and the mitered border panels in walnut-maple began.
