Always lay tiles with spacers
We strongly recommend laying all
concrete, ceramic, and natural stone tiles with spacers to prevent edge damage.
Our
spacers are available in various designs at every
sales location, in our shops, and online at shop.tschuemperlin-ag.ch.
Spacers also play a beneficial role in
preventing efflorescence during installation with
tiles. Tiles laid with open joints tend to have less efflorescence because moisture can escape better through the open joints. With closed joints, moisture must rise through the tiles, which dissolves the lime from the tiles, potentially leading to efflorescence.
If
tiles are laid without spacers, increased pressure can occur between tiles in framed areas, leading to edge damage, as the shrinking and
expanding of the tiles increases pressure in all directions. Open joints serve as a buffer zone and edge protection. The
joints should be regularly maintained and cleaned of dust, dirt, and other
substances that accumulate over time.
