You will join of the research group in coding theory and post-quantum cryptography, led by Prof. Anna-Lena Horlemann. We are part of the Institute of Computer Science (ICS-HSG) at the University of St.Gallen, a research institute specialized in computer science. Our fields of expertise include artificial intelligence, cyber security, data science, communication systems, human-computer interaction, programming languages, and software engineering.
Your tasks
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join our research group in the field of post-quantum cryptography (PQC). The successful candidate will work at the intersection of advanced cryptographic research and business/management-oriented communication, helping bridge the gap between technical innovation and real-world organizational needs.
This unique position combines theoretical and applied cryptography with strategic communication, project coordination, and technology management. It is ideally suited for candidates who want to conduct high-level scientific research while also contributing to the translation of PQC innovations into industry and policy contexts.
Your Responsibilities
- Conduct independent research in post-quantum cryptography
- Develop prototypes, proofs of concept, or models related to PQC adoption
- Communicate research findings to diverse audiences (technical and non-technical)
- Support collaboration with industry partners, governmental bodies, and internal stakeholders
- Contribute to project planning, reporting, and dissemination activities
- Participate in teaching activities and supervise student assistants (if applicable)
- Publish results in leading international journals and conferences
Your profile
We are looking for candidates with the following profile:
- Master's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Information Security, or a related field
- Strong foundational knowledge in cryptography, ideally with exposure to PQC
- Interest or prior experience in business communication, project management, or technology policy
- Preferably a Master's degree in Business Administration, or a related field
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in an interdisciplinary environment
- Proficiency in English
