About the job

Designers create, calculate, and construct individual parts and assemblies for devices, machines, and production systems based on specifications and sketches from engineers. They produce construction drawings on the computer and equip them with the necessary production data such as dimensions, materials, and surface properties. Based on these documents, the parts are manufactured and assembled in series.

Requirements for the 4-year training

• Completed secondary school
• Good performance in mathematics, geometry, and physics
• Analytical and logical thinking skills
• Strong three-dimensional imagination
• Enjoyment of technical and precise drawing
• Good computer skills
• Perseverance, patience, and high willingness to learn

Future prospects

• Completion of vocational baccalaureate (BMS) during or after the apprenticeship
• Professional examination as technical clerk or process specialist
• Advanced professional examination as industrial foreman
• Technician HF, e.g., specializing in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, electronics, computer science, operations technology
• Engineer BSc FH, e.g., specializing in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, computer science
