Correctional Services and Reintegration (JuWe) is part of the Directorate of Justice and the Interior of the Canton of Zurich and is responsible for penal and measure enforcement as well as the implementation of various types of detention. For our 1,400 employees from around 40 professions, the successful social reintegration of offenders and the prevention of recidivism are of particular importance.
The Pöschwies Correctional Facility (JVA) is one of seven main departments of JuWe. The JVA Pöschwies, with 399 places, is the largest closed correctional facility for men in Switzerland. It fulfills a central state function and, according to legal mandate, takes into account the resocialization of prisoners and the protection of the public.
Due to the reorganization of normal enforcement, we are looking for a committed and responsible person with high social competence as a supervisor / caregiver in normal enforcement from January 1, 2026, or by agreement, who will take on varied tasks in favor of the visiting system until the full implementation of the new enforcement regime.
This is your field of activity
- You supervise, occupy, and accompany inmates within the daily structures and act as a contact person for concerns
- You ensure an orderly daily routine, ensure compliance with and enforcement of safety and service regulations, and know how to recognize and manage critical situations
- Furthermore, you participate in leisure and group activities of the prisoners
- You take on administrative tasks such as writing reports and documenting events
- You supervise and manage the visitor room with the associated infrastructure and ensure an orderly process of prisoner visits
- You manage the prisoners' visit quotas
- You process permit applications for prisoner visits and take on other administrative tasks such as documenting unusual incidents
- You are the first contact person in the visiting system for prisoners, visitors, as well as internal and external partners and answer their questions and concerns personally at the counter, by phone, or by email and postal mail
What you bring
- You have completed vocational training with a federal certificate of competence, (specialized) maturity, specialized middle school certificate, or an equivalent qualification and ideally have professional experience in a similar care function
- You have very good oral and written German skills and ideally knowledge of another language
- You have good IT user skills in the MS Office suite
- You are a stable personality with high physical and mental resilience, flexibility, and social competence
- You treat other people with respect and appreciation
- You are willing to work in shifts with on-call and weekend duties
- You have a clean record (i.e., no entries in the criminal record and debt enforcement register) and are at least 25 years old
