The Department of Health, with its four offices and five services as well as around 200 employees, is responsible for the protection, promotion, and maintenance of the health of humans and animals. This includes ensuring high-quality basic medical care through optimal hospital planning in the field of acute somatics and psychiatry, health promotion, consumer protection, and veterinary services.
The Office for Health Prevention sees itself as the "Health Competence Center" in the canton. It makes an active contribution to promoting comprehensive health for the population of the canton of St. Gallen. The service offerings are located in the areas of medical as well as psychosocial, non-medical prevention and health promotion. They are aimed at professionals, schools, municipalities, companies, institutions, associations, and individuals.
