Context
In collaboration with CHUV partner services, the CTO offers expertise in various fields of organ transplantation: transplant surgery, coordination and transplant medicine, radiological interventions, kidney transplantation (adult and pediatric), heart transplantation (adult and pediatric), lung transplantation, liver transplantation (medical aspects), pancreatic transplantation (medical aspects), immunology and infectious diseases of transplantation, immunosuppressive drugs and infection prevention, laboratory medicine, clinical pathology (biopsies, etc.) in transplantation, psychology/psychiatry in transplantation. The essential missions of the Service are high-level medical-surgical and nursing care, both inpatient and outpatient, pre- and post-transplant of patients, teaching (pre-, post-graduate or continuing) and clinical/translational research. The CTO operates in an interdisciplinary manner with other sectors, units, services, and departments involved.
Mission
Main missions of the position:
- Lead, organize, and manage the development of all activities of a university organ transplantation Service
- Ensure and strengthen the expertise and quality of the surgical and clinical missions of the service while developing multidisciplinary and inter-institutional collaborations linked to the development axes of the CHUV DC, the Romand University Transplant Center (CURT Vaud-Geneva), and the CHUV Strategic Plan
- Unite teams and develop high-level clinical and academic research, funded by expert external funds. Active participation in the Swiss Transplant Cohort Study (STCS)
- Ensure and conduct faculty teaching missions at the undergraduate level (according to FBM UNIL needs), postgraduate and continuing education, in collaboration with various CHUV services
- Guarantee quality surgical, medical, and scientific succession, consolidate the external influence of the clinical and academic domain, and collaborate with hospitals of the Vaud Hospitals Federation (FHV) and Swiss cantons collaborating with CHUV, notably the Romand cantons within the CURT framework.
Profile
Desired profile:
- Medical degree (Swiss or MEBEKO recognized equivalent mandatory) & MD or MD-PhD required
- Specialist title (ISFM or MEBEKO recognized equivalent mandatory) – two possible profiles:
- Either in surgery with subspecialization related to transplantation. Experience in robotics and new technologies (procurement and transplants) = an asset
- Or in general internal medicine with subspecialization related to transplantation.
Professional experience:
- Minimum 3-5 years experience in an internationally recognized university hospital in organ transplantation and specific experience with organs from donors after cardiac death
- Additional certification in transplantation (European Board of Surgery and its transplantation subspecialties or American Board in transplantation, accredited AST or ASTS)
- Recognized managerial skills, notably in team leadership and project management.
- Ability to establish clinical and translational research programs supported by expert external funds. Scientific publications in expert international journals
- Academic knowledge and expertise at professorial level with confirmed practice in pre- and postgraduate teaching
- Good knowledge of French (native speaker or C1 ideal, minimum B2 with ability to acquire quickly).
Social skills:
- Proven ability to collaborate harmoniously between different surgical and medical services, as well as in an inter-institutional framework (national, international).
