The Public Prosecutor's Office I of the Canton of Zurich conducts cantonal criminal investigations against adults in the area of serious violent crime.
We are looking for a motivated individual for our dedicated team at the Police and Justice Center Zurich starting February 1, 2026, or by arrangement, as a legal assistant public prosecutor (limited until 12/31/2028).
What to expect from us
Criminal proceedings in the area of serious violent crime are particularly complex, time-critical, and require high demands on diligence, decision-making ability, and teamwork. The increasing complexity of these proceedings requires new forms of legal support.
The public prosecutor's offices of the Canton of Zurich have created a new job profile in the legal mid-level staff, aimed at individuals who do not seek training as public prosecutors but want to participate directly in demanding proceedings in a support function.
In this exciting new role, you can support our public prosecutors in close teamwork from day one in managing their cases and directly work on cases of serious violent crime. These include, in particular, capital crimes (e.g., homicide), qualified sexual offenses, child protection cases, and especially demanding cases of domestic violence.
Your tasks include, among others:
" Preparation and issuance of orders of all kinds
" Support in on-call duty
" Preparation and conduct of interrogations
" Drafting decisions and indictment facts
" Conducting legal clarifications
Depending on your level of experience, you will also independently handle cases under the responsibility of a public prosecutor.
This is a new job profile; therefore, candidacy with a view to obtaining the eligibility certificate for public prosecutors is not intended. The positions are limited within the framework of a pilot project until the end of 2028.
How to convince us
Requirements for this position are a completed law degree and relevant professional experience with good qualifications, preferably with law enforcement or judicial authorities or in legal practice. A lawyer's license or similar professional additional qualifications are advantageous.
Flawless knowledge of criminal and criminal procedure law and confident German language skills in speaking and writing are fundamental skills in our field. You also have high self-motivation and work efficiently and purposefully, but with the necessary care. Furthermore, we expect integrity, discretion, resilience, a confident demeanor, and pronounced teamwork skills.
What we offer you
Working in our team is an investment in your future and a unique experience: You are involved from the very first moment, benefiting from the experience and expertise of our public prosecutors. Your workplace is located in the Police and Justice Center in Zurich. The employment conditions correspond to the cantonal guidelines. Classification is in salary class 18.
For further information, Dr. iur. Ines Meier, Chief Public Prosecutor (ines.meier@ji.zh.ch), and lic. iur. Lorin Stahel, Department Head (lorin.stahel@ji.zh.ch), are available.
We look forward to receiving your application by January 11, 2026, at the latest via our job portal.
