Job Description:
The Head of Data will drive Gunvor's enterprise data strategy throughout the entire trading lifecycle, encompassing pre-trade modelling, real-time execution, and post-trade analytics.
This position, reporting to the Global Head of IT and collaborating with business leaders, ensures data is leveraged as a strategic asset.
This involves managing essential Gunvor Group databases, ensuring the provision of reliable and timely data sets, and integrating all key trading data sets into a scalable and governed architecture.
These datasets consist of market, fundamental, position, P&L, and execution data.
The ideal candidate will bridge business and technical worlds, enabling smarter trading decisions, operational excellence,
and regulatory compliance through data.
Main Responsibilities
1. Full Data Lifecycle & Platform Ownership

Manage data across pre-trade, live trading, and post-trade environments.

Oversee the architecture and delivery of business-facing databases

Ensure seamless integration of internal and external data sources into a scalable, efficient platform.

Provide real-time, actionable data to support trading decisions, risk oversight, and post-trade analysis.
2. Data Strategy and Governance

Define and lead the company-wide data strategy aligned with business goals.

Establish data governance frameworks to ensure quality, integrity, ownership, and compliance.

Build clear policies for data lifecycle management across business units.

Ensure that post-trade data is properly stored, governed, and utilized for accurate P&L reporting, performance tracking, and business forecasting.
3. Data Architecture and Operational Oversight

Design and evolve the enterprise data architecture to ensure robustness, flexibility, and performance.

Manage ingestion, processing, storage, and access for all key datasets (market, fundamental, position, P&L, and execution).

Own data quality monitoring systems and resolve issues affecting reliability or performance.
4. Regulatory Compliance and Risk Management

Ensure data processes comply with regulatory standards and commercial agreements-

Support internal and external audits through structured, traceable data management practices.

Build data controls and safeguards to minimize operational and reporting risks, ensuring compliance
5. Cross-functional Leadership

Lead and grow a team of data engineers

Collaborate closely with IT, trading desks, risk management

Promote a data-driven culture and promote data literacy throughout the organization
6. Innovation and Continuous Improvement

Stay current with innovations in AI, machine learning, and big data relevant to trading and analytics.

Continuously improve data tools, workflows, and automation to enhance usability and performance.

Evaluate and adopt new platforms or solutions that support the business’s competitive edge.
Profile
-
Master’s or bachelor’s degree in data engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field.

Proven experience in data management, governance, and architecture in trading, finance, or energy sectors.

Deep knowledge of full trading data flows, from pre-trade analytics to post-trade reporting.

Hands-on experience with structured databases, data pipelines, and real-time data architectures.

Proficient with data tools and languages such as SQL, Python, Power BI, or equivalent.

Excellent communication and leadership skills, with strong stakeholder management abilities.
Preferred Skills

Familiarity with commodity and energy trading systems, pricing models, and market data providers.

Exposure to AI/ML, forecasting models, and advanced analytics in a trading context

Understanding of financial and regulatory frameworks affecting trading and data.
