Scientific Assistant in the Field of Environmental Engineering (80-100%)

Your tasks:
The University of Applied Sciences Northwestern Switzerland FHNW comprises ten universities with around 15,000 students. The Institute for Biomass and Resource Efficiency focuses, among other things, on the integration of renewable energies into the energy supply system within the framework of the Energy Strategy 2050. Other topics include pollutant reduction from industrial processes, provision of energy carriers from biomass, optimization of biomass combustion systems, negative emission technologies with biomass, as well as waste and resource management.
Your tasks:
- Planning and conducting experimental and model-based numerical investigations and optimizations of novel processes to reduce pollutant emissions in biomass combustion systems and wastewater treatment processes in collaboration with industry
- You create test plans, conduct experiments, evaluate the results, and interpret them
- You use computational models to assess and optimize the processes
- You characterize and evaluate process chains
- You carry out any necessary technical adjustments and/or extensions on prototypes and test their functionality
- You document the results in German and English in project reports and publications
- You supervise semester and diploma theses together with institute professors
- You take on initial project management tasks
Your profile:
- University degree in process engineering/mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or energy and environmental engineering
- Initial professional experience and specialization in process development and experimental methods or in the creation and use of numerical models are advantageous
- You enjoy working in a team, have a very good scientific-technical understanding, and like to solve technical problems in a structured and well-planned manner
- Very good German and English skills, both spoken and written, are required
The position is limited to 2 years.
