The International Department is responsible for the international engagement of the Swiss Red Cross and ensures that it has an impact worldwide. For this responsible task, we are looking for an experienced leader with strategic foresight and a sense for influence, impact, and collaboration.
What you can achieve
- Co-shaping the strategy and corporate policy as a member of the executive board and implementing it within your own area of responsibility
- Leading the department and its three divisions with around 90 employees in Switzerland and abroad
- Being responsible for the strategic orientation and implementation of international engagement
- Positioning and further developing the international engagement of the SRC in the global context, especially within the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement
- Representing the SRC in national and international bodies and maintaining strategic partnerships with ICRC, IFRC, federal agencies, and NGOs
- Ensuring the implementation of the business model for international engagement to strengthen the national sister societies abroad
- Further developing and promoting a role-based and learning-oriented organizational model in the department
What you bring with you
- University degree or postgraduate studies in international relations, development cooperation, humanitarian aid or a related field, complemented by business management training
- Comprehensive expertise in international engagement including foreign missions, humanitarian international law, topics such as health and care, migration, disasters, climate, crises, as well as in the development of national societies, including program management and supervision
- Several years of experience in strategic and business management with result responsibility for larger, decentralized organizational units
- Visionary and implementation-strong thinking and acting as well as interest in agile management approaches in an international context
- Good knowledge of the structures of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement and broad networking with international organizations, federal agencies, and NGOs
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, cultural sensitivity, and a confident, engaging demeanor
- Negotiation-level language skills (at least C1) in German, English, and French, Spanish skills are an advantage
