ETH transfer is the technology transfer office of ETH Zurich. We support ETH members with all questions regarding inventions, technology assessment, and manage the patent portfolio of ETH. By granting licenses, we bring ETH's research results into application, thus creating a bridge between academic innovation and practical use. Strengthen our team as a Technology and License Manager immediately or as soon as possible.
Job Description
You are the first point of contact for ETH members on all questions related to intellectual property. Your task is to assess new technologies and inventions, especially in the field of Computational Biology/Chemistry, Bioinformatics, Data Science in the medical field, AI data usage, Biomedical/Tissue Engineering, as well as to support new patent applications and to administer, coordinate, and expand the active patent portfolio of ETH Zurich (e.g., by commissioning patent law firms).
Assessing software disclosures including clarifying third-party rights as well as evaluating data packages will also be part of your role. For this, exchange with ETH software developers in the life sciences field is central – you will raise researchers' awareness of IP rights and the requirements for software coding and data usage for later commercialization.
Furthermore, with the support of the internal technology marketing team, you will find interested companies at home and abroad that want to further develop these technologies, software, and inventions into marketable products and services and lead the sometimes complex contract negotiations (licenses, Data Transfer Agreements, NDAs, MTAs, etc.).
Profile
You have:
- A university degree (M.Sc. or PhD) in Computational Biology/Chemistry, Bioinformatics, Data Science, Biomedical/Tissue Engineering;
- Several years of professional experience outside academia;
- Experience in intellectual property and negotiation skills;
- Expertise in protecting digital assets (software and data-driven innovations) that differ from traditional patenting procedures.
- Knowledge in examining third-party rights in data-intensive research projects or in the commercialization of software.
- Experience in software agreements for data and software transfer in the life sciences sector.
- High flexibility and quick comprehension, enabling you to engage with unfamiliar fields.
- You are a committed, sociable, and proactive person.
- Teamwork is as important to you as independent working.
- In addition to your native language German or equivalent skills, you bring excellent English and possibly other language skills.
