Set course for a journey of discovery and navigate Lake Lucerne with us as a ship captain in summer and work as a sanitary and heating installer in winter.
The Lake Lucerne Navigation Company (SGV) AG is a subsidiary of SGV Holding AG. Its origins date back to 1836. SGV AG operates as a licensed, private transport company with a fleet of five historic paddle steamers and 15 motor ships, transporting nearly 3 million passengers annually on Lake Lucerne.
The exciting activity
You will enjoy an extremely varied working environment and be directly at the heart of the action with our customers on the front line. You will competently advise our passengers regarding timetables and exciting excursion opportunities. You sell tickets and check travel documents. As a future ship captain, you keep our ships on course. You can fully express your strong service orientation in all its facets and competently fulfill your role as host on board. The attractive working environment is rounded off by the maintenance/upkeep of the assigned ships and working as a deckhand on our larger scheduled ships.
In winter, you work at Shiptec AG as a sanitary and heating installer. You are responsible for installation, commissioning, maintenance, and repair on ships, stations, and shipyard infrastructure. Furthermore, you take on an important interface role between departments, internal and external customers, and suppliers.
Your career
As an aspiring ship captain, you start your nautical career as a sailor. After successfully completing the first season and internal training, you will be employed as a cashier in the second year. In the third year or later, you will undergo training to become a ship captain. With the appropriate aptitude, all career opportunities up to steamship captain are open to you from a nautical perspective.
Requirements profile
- Completed basic training as a sanitary installer EFZ or heating installer EFZ
- Professional experience as a sanitary-heating installer
- High service commitment and great sense of responsibility
- Very good German skills in spoken and written form as well as oral language skills in English and French, additional languages are an advantage
- A high level of communication and conflict resolution skills, flexibility, and resilience
- Willingness to work irregular shifts and on-call duty, including weekends, with additional work in the summer half-year and compensation in the winter half-year
- Minimum height of 1.70m
- Ideally between 20 and 35 years old
- Good physical condition, good swimming skills
- Driver's license PW, category B
