Basics of ground concrete surfaces Compared to conventional screeds designed as a carrier layer for floor coverings, ground concrete surfaces have some relevant differentiating features. One is the fact that the surfaces are directly exposed to stresses from the time of installation or grinding. Untreated, the component is characterized by high open porosity, it absorbs liquids quickly. Even highly polished surfaces retain their absorbency. They appear dense to the observer, but the microporosity remains. Damage or other influences that cause a change in the surface cannot be repaired without affecting the aesthetics of the floors. Ground concrete surfaces are one of the few visible components that are created on site from scratch, i.e., in the project. It goes without saying that each floor is unique. Its technical and aesthetic properties vary depending on the type and origin of the aggregates, the recipes, the professionalism of the installers, or the weather conditions during installation. Installing and grinding concrete surfaces requires not only very precise planning and detailed work but also appropriate conditions during and after installation and grinding. It is very important, for example, to maintain appropriate drying conditions. Drying should be as uniform as possible. Surfaces must not be covered too early and only with special, diffusion-open materials. The surfaces of BSB-CT firm-lux hardened concrete ground can be treated in various ways. One option is impregnation with stone oil, which is used either colorless or with added pigments. Alternatively, the absorbency of the surfaces can be reduced by treatment with pore fillers based on acrylic. Another possibility is to hydrophobize the surfaces. Hydrophobizations prevent the penetration of liquids into the covering. They are usually colorless and allow easier maintenance cleaning. BSB-CT firm-lux hardened concrete ground always shows color variations that belong to the character of this type of surface. Those who choose such a covering must, unlike conventional screeds, expect an additional construction time of about 4-6 weeks. BSB-CT firm-lux hardened concrete ground is not universally applicable. Therefore, consult specialists already in the planning phase. BSB-CT firm-lux hardened concrete ground consists of the binder cement, aggregate, water, concrete additives, and possibly pigments. It complies with the standards according to SIA 567 252 (floor coverings made of cement, magnesia, synthetic resin, and bitumen) and is suitable for indoor and outdoor use. BSB-CT firm-lux hardened concrete ground must be protected from too rapid drying. It must not be exposed to drafts in the first 21 days after installation. BSB-CT firm-lux hardened concrete ground can also be colored with appropriate pigments. These facts make it extremely attractive for commercial construction. It is recommended to treat the surfaces of BSB-CT firm-lux hardened concrete ground with impregnations or sealants. This guarantees a long-term unchanged surface and facilitates maintenance cleaning. Care for the surfaces according to the care instructions and only with the products recommended there.
