Once a mechanic, now head of Service & Small Renovations
Like most of our leading employees, the head of Service & Small Renovations, Josef D’Aurelio, has a background in construction. As a trained sanitary and heating installer, he still reminisces about his time as a craftsman. If his knee could still handle the daily strains, he probably would never have exchanged his dream job for an office position. After graduating from the chief installer school in 2012, he was tasked with establishing a service and renovation department at the new location in Arlesheim. He started this new challenge with a team of 15 people.
I saw the potential in our service and renovation department and set myself the goal of becoming economically independent from the other business areas of alltech.
“Special Unit” for Service & Small Renovations in Arlesheim
Josef D’Aurelio wanted his team to stand on their own feet, to be self-sustaining, and to live off their own fruits in terms of acquisition. A workforce of around 40 employees today ensures that this dream has become a reality. A clear separation from the construction business areas was necessary, as building technology in the private sector requires some finesse.
We carry out our operations in the living environment of our customers. A well-groomed appearance and exemplary behavior regarding cleanliness and communication are essential. The work also requires a broader perspective to coordinate the operations of other craftsmen.
The professional skills also differ from those of a construction installer. Thoughts of MacGyver come to mind. Just like in the famous TV series from the 80s, the resources available in the service vehicle should be used in a solution-oriented manner. Every day brings new challenges, and long preparation times are not the norm. Moreover, the longer it goes on, the more expertise in the field of renewable energies is expected. But even if his specialist team operates autonomously, he places great importance on cross-departmental communication within the company. The spirit inside and outside the team is unique for Josef D’Aurelio. And that makes collaboration with colleagues at headquarters, such as when drawing plans, a true joy.
Top of Mind, even with private customers
If you ask Josef D’Aurelio about his current goals, the answer doesn’t take long to come:
To hire additional employees who embody the alltech spirit.
Despite the full order books, Josef D’Aurelio is already mentally far into the future. In his vision, alltech Installationen AG is the first point of contact when it comes to renovations in the bathroom or heating system.
I am often asked whether we also take on ‘such small projects’. Many customers perceive us exclusively as partners for new buildings and large projects. We need to work on that.
And we are doing that. The positioning of the specialist team in Arlesheim with their target group is currently one of the major communication goals of alltech Installationen AG.
