We are looking for a Head of Main Department Emerging Technology and Exploration (f/m/d) to join our team and drive the future of advanced technology development at Endress+Hauser Flow. In this key role, you will define and implement the vision and roadmap for emerging technologies, shaping structures that foster innovation, collaboration and excellence across disciplines – helping our products make a meaningful impact worldwide.
What is the role about?
As Head of Main Department Emerging Technology and Exploration (f/m/d), you will define and lead the strategic direction of the pre-development function within the technology domain. You’ll report directly to senior executive leadership (Vice President Technology) playing a pivotal role in shaping the company’s technological future, driving innovation and ensuring that emerging technologies are identified, assessed and integrated into the corporate strategy at an early stage.
What will you do?
You will:
- lead and develop the Emerging Technology and Exploration organization, drive people processes (e.g., people development, succession planning) and foster cross-functional collaboration
- define and implement the vision and roadmap for advanced technology development aligned with corporate objectives
- manage the end-to-end scouting process – from trend analysis and concept development to handover to product development
- detect and evaluate emerging trends and innovations in areas such as sensor technology, manufacturing processes, software, AI and related fields
- actively moderate and contribute to the company’s innovation and idea management network
- own the technology portfolio, including budget planning, capacity management and prioritization of technology projects
- analyze and evaluate technological innovations and developments, deriving their potential impact on corporate strategy
- conduct analysis of competitors, patents and scientific publications.
- build and maintain international collaborations with research institutes, universities and industry partners; represent the company at relevant conferences
- oversee intellectual property strategy and manage technology-related risks
- define success metrics and regularly report progress to senior management
What do we expect from you?
You:
- hold a university degree and a PhD in a technical-scientific or innovation-related field (e.g., engineering, physics, materials science, computer science)
- bring several years of leadership experience in technology development or advanced development and a minimum of 10 years of professional experience in technology development
- possess strong expertise in technology analysis, innovation management and trend research
- have experience with technology portfolios, roadmaps and evaluation methods (e.g., TRL – Technology Readiness Level)
- have a solid understanding of market mechanisms, business models and technological value chains
- have broad interdisciplinary expertise with a strong understanding of technical and economic interdependencies
- have experience with both agile and traditional project management methodologies
- have a deep understanding of innovation processes, technology trends and strategic business development
- exhibit the ability to collaborate and influence executive leadership across functions and in an international environment
- communicate fluently in English and German
