Correctional Services and Reintegration (JuWe) is part of the Directorate of Justice and Home Affairs of the Canton of Zurich and is responsible for penal and measure enforcement as well as the implementation of various types of detention. For our 1,400 employees from around 40 professions, the successful social reintegration of offenders and the prevention of recidivism are of particular importance.
The newly established Medical Service Department ensures the medical-somatic basic care for incarcerated persons in all correctional institutions of the Canton of Zurich. As a central organizational unit, it guarantees a harmonized and high-quality health care according to the equivalence principle and works closely with the Psychiatric-Psychological Service and the JuWe institutions.
The Main Department of Pre-Trial Detention Centers Zurich (UGZ) - one of seven main departments of JuWe - currently operates seven prisons for pre-trial and security detention. One of these prisons is the Limmattal Prison (GFL), located in the district building Dietikon, which together with the Horgen Prison Department (GFH) offers 121 places for inmates. In addition to a department for adult inmates, the GFL has a strictly separated youth department as well as a crisis intervention department.
To complement our team at Limmattal Prison, we are looking for a resilient, open-minded, and humorous personality starting February 1, 2026.
This is your field of activity
- Accompanying and supporting incarcerated persons in everyday life and during crisis situations as well as promoting their social skills
- First intervention in medical and psychiatric emergencies as a member of the entire care team
- Organizing and participating in somatic, psychiatric, and dental consultations for the basic health care of inmates
- Conducting emergency training with the care team
- Collaboration in an interdisciplinary treatment and care team
- Contact person for internal and external partners in health matters
- Co-responsibility for medication management and pharmacy administration
- Shaping and developing the health service by contributing your professional and social competence
- Willingness to work shifts including weekends and public holidays
What you bring
- Completed training in psychiatric or somatic health and nursing (DN II or HF)
- Interest in the care and support of incarcerated persons in crisis situations
- At least 5 years of professional experience as a nursing specialist, preferably in psychiatry or an emergency department
- Team-oriented working style while adhering to security regulations in a prison
- Flexibility, personal responsibility, and a high level of social competence
- Willingness for professional development/continuing education in the correctional services environment
- Very good German skills; knowledge of other languages is an advantage
- Minimum age of 25 years
