The University Library Basel with its five locations is one of the most important public information centers in the region. With a collection of 6 million printed and 3.5 million electronic media as well as half a million visitors annually, it is one of the major scientific libraries in Switzerland. At the same time, it is the cantonal library of Basel-Stadt and accessible to the public. In its role as an intermediary between science and society, it offers various stakeholders a versatile learning and meeting space.

The University Library Basel awards two internship positions per year as preparation for the Bachelor's degree program in Information Science. Usually, the internship duration is 12 months; depending on previous professional experience, a shorter duration is also possible.

Your tasks

• Information and advice - You will learn how the library's analog and digital media offerings are conveyed and support the customer service team in advising our users.
• Media processing - You will gain insights into the ordering and cataloging of printed and digital media and help keep the library collection up to date.
• Historical collections and digitization projects - You will learn how to handle historical collections and participate in projects that ensure their long-term accessibility.
• Open Science - You will gain insight into how the library supports researchers in open access to scientific publications and research data.
• Deployment in different departments and teams - Depending on your interests and prior knowledge, we will jointly design your assignments in various specialist departments.

Your profile

• You want to gain initial work experience in the field of Information Science after your high school diploma and qualify for admission to the corresponding university of applied sciences program.
• You have a strong interest in new information technologies.
• You enjoy contact with customers.
• You are a team player, flexible, and have good communication skills.
