The University of Bern educates over 19,400 students and employs more than 7,000 staff across around 150 institutes, nine competence centers, and the central administration. It uses a highly diverse spatial infrastructure spread over approximately 130 properties for these activities. The Operations and Technology department is part of the Administrative Directorate and is responsible for the efficient and economical building operation (operational, technical, and safety-related) of all properties used by the University.
Strategic Facility Management (SFM) provides a variety of services to support the university organizational units and external partners. It ensures the contractual, organizational, and economic management of outsourced services in facility management and ensures efficient use of resources. Through the Facility Desk and the main phone number, Commercial Facility Management (CFM) acts as the central contact point for all matters related to building operations. The Room Reservation Center (RRZ) serves as the central reservation point for classrooms and coordinates their management within the University of Bern.
- Professional and organizational leadership of the commercial facility management team
- Responsibility for contract management, creditor and debtor processes, as well as operating and ancillary cost accounting
- Controlling KPIs, preparing reports, and deriving optimization measures
- Ensuring and further developing quality management and internal control system (ICS)
- Managing the Facility Desk (ticketing system) and the main phone number of the University of Bern as the central contact point
- Supporting parking and vehicle management
- Collaboration with the Room Reservation Center for efficient management of classrooms
- Interface management between internal departments, external partners, and users
- Participation in projects in the areas of digitalization, room reservation, and sustainability
- Ensuring high-quality training of commercial apprentices (planning, supervision, evaluation)
Requirements
- Completed commercial training with further education in real estate management, facility management, business administration, or comparable qualification
- Several years of experience in commercial facility management, ideally in a complex institution or public administration
- Leadership experience and ideally experience in training commercial apprentices (trainer advantage)
- Experience in controlling, reporting, and quality management (ICS advantage)
- Strong communication skills, analytical thinking, and pronounced organizational talent
- Interest in sustainable and efficient processes as well as in the further development of digital solutions
- Confident handling of MS Office; knowledge of CAFM systems (e.g., Planon) and SAP is a plus
- Very good German skills, English and French skills desirable
