Company Description
At CERN , the European Organization for Nuclear Research, physicists and engineers are probing the fundamental structure of the universe. Using the world's largest and most complex scientific instruments, they study the basic constituents of matter - fundamental particles that are made to collide together at close to the speed of light. The process gives physicists clues about how particles interact, and provides insights into the fundamental laws of nature.
Job Description
Introduction:
Are you a hands-on technician with proven experience in scaffolding and mechanical coordination? Do you thrive in a collaborative, fast-paced environment where engineers and technicians from multiple fields work together to achieve extraordinary goals?
If so, this is your opportunity to contribute directly to some of the world’s most fascinating scientific operations.
As Technical Responsible for Scaffolding Services and Activity Coordinator, you will be responsible for a major scaffolding service contract and coordinate technical interventions in the Antiproton Decelerator ( AD ) complex.
Your mission:
To ensure maintenance and installation activities are carried out safely, efficiently, and in line with CERN’s strict operational standards.
You will be part of the Design and Coordination ( DC ) Section, within the Experimental Areas ( EA ) Group of the Beams Department ( BE ). This section is dedicated to enabling cutting-edge physics research by guaranteeing safe access and smooth installation work across CERN’s experimental facilities.
This goes beyond a coordination role:
As an experimental area coordinator this is a chance to work side by side with world-leading scientists and engineers, making a tangible impact on the future of physics. From overseeing technical interventions to managing service contracts, your contribution will help keep CERN’s unique facilities running safely and reliably at the forefront of discovery.
Functions:
Gather scaffolding user requirements, evaluate potential solutions, and provide expert advice on the most appropriate options, ensuring that all structures comply with CERN’s safety regulations in collaboration with safety officers when needed.
- Act as the main scaffolding technical interface for users, contributing to the selection and validation of technical solutions (including specifications, designs and alternatives).
- Coordinate a small team working closely with the scaffolding service provider.
- Supervise, and follow up on installation, maintenance, and upgrade activities in beamlines and installations as an experimental area coordinator.
- When required, actively participate in hands-on installation, maintenance, and adjustment of beamlines under the responsibility of the Experimental Areas Group, including interventions on LHC forward detectors.
- Ensure all necessary safety measures are implemented and in place during on-site activities.
Qualifications
Higher technical diploma or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Mechanical engineering, or a related field. (French equivalent: diplôme de technicien supérieur) or a related field.

- Managing the technical aspects of a service contract.
- Installing scaffolding in complex, delicate, and sensitive environments.
- Creating and reviewing models using 3D CAD software.
- Inspection of fixed and mobile scaffolding structures.
- Coordination and safety aspects in the context of Works and Services Supervision (WSS).
Knowledge of the following fields will be considered an asset:
- GANTT (Microsoft Project®).
- CATIA® 3D CAD software.
- Training in scaffolding and/or 3D CAD software will be provided when necessary.
Technical competencies:
- Safety conformity assessment.
- Knowledge of personal protective equipment.
- Specification and follow-up of technical aspects of a contract.
