The Heilpädagogische Schule Oberaargau (hps-oberaargau.ch) creates encounters that are diverse, authentic, and trustworthy. It understands its school operation as a learning organization that lives individual and collective development. Organized as a foundation, the school currently has over 18 classes and around 120 employees and fulfills the educational tasks for students with special educational needs on behalf of the Canton of Bern.
Strongly anchored in the region, the school meets the increasing demand through targeted expansion of infrastructure and offerings. In summer 2026, the new facility for the expansion of the workshop levels will be opened in the original area of the Langenthal porcelain factory.

Tasks
As the overall principal, you share operational responsibility for the institution together with an experienced management team. You shape the strategic, pedagogical, organizational, personnel, and cultural development – and consolidate the organization after a growth phase. Your quick comprehension helps you question processes, initiate improvements, and promote digital transformation to simplify workflows. You maintain communication with parents, authorities, specialist offices, and the public and are at the same time an attentive listener to the needs of students and employees. Together with the board of trustees, you define goals and development directions and accompany change processes at various levels with foresight, clarity, and sensitivity. Thanks to your educational experience, you also take over the management of a to-be-defined sub-area of the school operation.
Requirements
You have a pedagogical or special education basic training with teaching practice and have furthered your education in leadership and management. Proven leadership experience in education or social services or in managing a foundation with financial responsibility is required. You design structures, lead people empoweringly, and drive developments forward. Entrepreneurial thinking, conceptual and strategic competence, as well as empathy and communicative strength characterize you. You can inspire, involve, and maintain sustainable relationships both internally and externally.
