The Institute of Infectious Diseases undertakes tasks in teaching and research as well as in diagnostic microbiology in the fields of virology, bacteriology, mycology, parasitology, and serological infection diagnostics. It is the only university institute in Switzerland that unites all microbiological special disciplines in the field of clinical microbiology under one roof.
We are looking for
The research group TrimLab at the University of Bern investigates the interactions between nutrition, microbiota, and metabolism with a clear translational focus. The innovation project "FajbaGum" develops a microbiota-modulating nutritional intervention based on the latest microbiome research results and is currently being tested for its effectiveness in a clinical study. The commercialization of FibaGum within the framework of a start-up is being advanced in parallel.
We are looking for a curious, independent personality who enjoys scientifically shaping and advancing an innovative project; at the interface of research, product development, and application.
Tasks
You will take on a key scientific role within the FajbaGum project and work closely with the group leadership.
- Active design and further development of the scientific concept of FajbaGum
- Coordination and implementation of ongoing preclinical and clinical work
- Analysis, integration, and interpretation of data on microbiota, metabolism, and nutrition
- Interface function between science, regulatory affairs, marketing, and external partners
- Collaboration on study protocols, publications, and presentations
- Support in supervising students and project staff
Requirements
- Master's degree or PhD in nutritional sciences, biomedicine, life sciences, microbiology, immunology, or a related field
- Experience in the field of nutrition, microbiota, and/or metabolism - pronounced initiative, enthusiasm for innovation, and scientific curiosity
- Ability to communicate complex content clearly and appropriately for the target audience
- Structured, independent working style and team spirit
- Very good English skills; German is an advantage
