The University Library Basel (UB Basel) with its five locations is one of the most important public information centers in the region. With a collection of 6 million printed and 3.5 million electronic media, half a million visitors annually, and its significant historical collection dating back to the 8th century, it is one of the major scientific libraries in Switzerland. At the same time, it serves as the cantonal library of Basel-Stadt and is accessible to the public. In its role as an intermediary between science and society, it offers various stakeholders a versatile space for learning and encounters.

The UB Economics and the Swiss Economic Archive SWA (UBW - SWA) are part of the UB Basel. They serve as an archive, documentation center, and library. The collections include over 550 archives from the private sector, about 35,000 documentations on economic topics, as well as an extensive library collection on economics, economic history, and sociology. They are the national competence center for sources on Swiss economic history and responsible for information supply in the fields of economics and sociology at the University of Basel.

Your tasks

• Personnel, organizational, and professional management of customer services including the special reading room of the SWA
• Responsibility for the infrastructure and operational safety of the library and archive
• Strategic planning and development of customer services and infrastructure
• Information, advice, and support of users personally on site, by phone or in writing in general literature search and especially in research in the library catalog swisscovery, financial databases, other relevant research portals, documentations, and archive holdings of UBW - SWA
• Main contact point at the UBW - SWA information desk for inquiries, lending, on-site use, and return of documentations and archival materials, support in the use of local infrastructure, etc.
• Coordination of processes in the storage areas

Your profile

• Bachelor of Science FH in Information Science or comparable education
• Initiative, communicative, resilient, and service-oriented leadership personality
• Several years of professional experience in librarianship with direct customer contact and leadership as well as project management experience
• Knowledge in archival science (especially usage)
• Good knowledge of economic and political contexts in Switzerland
• Willingness for inter-company cooperation and innovation development
• Very good German skills as well as good written and spoken French and English skills
