The Zurich prison, with its 135 places, is the largest remand prison in the canton of Zurich and plays an important role in taking over the temporarily detained persons from the Zurich West prison as well as in their distribution to the individual departments of the prisons in the canton of Zurich.
A highly complex operation runs daily behind the walls of Zurich prison.
For our penal system to function safely, lawfully, and with dignity, a responsible and committed management is required.
As co-leader of execution, you share responsibility with your co-leader for security, organization, and leadership. You divide the competencies at the same level and make decisions in partnership. Together, you ensure that a smooth prison routine is guaranteed even in complex situations. Through presence management, you ensure that a competent leadership is always on site during the absence of the other.

This is how you shape the prison routine
- In this co-leadership, you are responsible for the personnel, professional, and organizational management of the execution area with around 50 employees
- You ensure a legally compliant, dignified, and orderly penal system, including compliance with detention forms and the exercise of the duty of care towards inmates
- You are the central contact person for the concerns of the detainees and take on administrative tasks to optimize processes and ensure appropriate employment offers
- You ensure compliance with disciplinary requirements, coordinate actions in emergency situations, are responsible for reporting, and actively participate in disciplinary matters
- You work closely with the interprofessional care team (caregivers, medical and psychiatric service, social service) to solve complex cases and support sustainable decisions
- You are responsible for the professional training and further education of the team, actively participate in the training of new employees, and support projects as well as strategic tasks of the management
This is what you bring with you
- A federal certificate of competence or an equivalent qualification as well as further training as a specialist in penal system management
- Several years of professional experience, ideally in the penal system or a comparable field
- You already have leadership experience
- Very good German skills as well as good oral skills in at least one foreign language
- Confident handling of MS Office, radio systems, and control center systems
- High resilience, flexibility, and willingness to work shifts, nights, and weekends
- Ability to act resiliently and calmly in a demanding environment
- You have an impeccable reputation
- Strong team skills and enjoyment of collaboration
