About the job
Worry-free Aging: Overview of Housing OptionsLong-term Care: Living in the Senior Center Naters
The classic, permanent form of living in a retirement and nursing home is called long-term care. The physical and/or cognitive abilities of the residents are limited and require, depending on the degree, a more or less pronounced, individual care or nursing per day. In Switzerland, reference is made among other things to the so-called BESA care levels (1 = low care needs, 12 = very high care needs). Admission to the retirement and nursing home should take place at the earliest from care level 3. Long-term care beds are available in the Sancta Maria House and in the St. Michael House. The care is based on the care mission statement and aims to maintain, restore, and improve the independence, well-being, and autonomy of the residents as much as possible.
Long-term Care: Dementia Living Area
For people with pronounced dementia, the Senior Center Naters has a dementia living area in the Sancta Maria House and St. Michael House. This form of living is aimed at disoriented people with sensitive, specialized care and support, whose inner world of experience forms the basis for a contented life despite all limitations. The residents participate in shaping everyday life so that their resources are actively promoted. The dementia living areas offer a home to 28 dementia or Alzheimer’s patients.
As a bridging offer: Short-stay beds
These care places for a limited period (maximum 5 weeks consecutively) serve as an offer in the transition between hospital and home or in emergency situations. The elderly person should then be able to return home.
As a relief offer: Day care places
Day care places primarily serve to relieve caregiving relatives of elderly people. Users of these places live at home and occasionally or regularly spend a day at the Senior Center Naters. They are involved in the day’s activities and have lunch at the home.
Assisted apartments for later move-in
The new building Stelle offers assisted apartments for seniors (couples or individuals) who can use services and help if needed. The residents are still very independent but appreciate a secure, social environment. An in-house Spitex ensures any necessary nursing services; there is a restaurant, foot care services, and a hairdresser in the house itself. If the personal situation worsens, a move to long-term care is possible. These are not age-appropriate apartments for early move-in (e.g., senior residences).
