About the job
PREMIUM LENSES (CATARACT SURGERY)
Refractive premium lenses - for (upcoming) cataract surgery
As already mentioned in the Cataract Surgery section, an artificial lens replaces the natural (cloudy) eye lens. The artificial lens (intraocular lens) is implanted into the so-called lens capsule and usually remains there for life. You can choose between different intraocular lenses: standard lenses or so-called refractive premium lenses: toric, EDOF (bifocal), or trifocal lenses.
The additional cost for these premium lenses (CHF 600.- to CHF 2,000.-) is never covered by health insurance and must be paid by the patient.
These refractive premium lenses are not suitable for all patients, and the ophthalmologist must carefully exclude possible contraindications when planning the cataract surgery. In addition to the usual examinations before cataract surgery, further detailed measurements of the eye's refractive power are necessary.
The obtained measurement data are evaluated in complex refractive models to determine the best possible lens power.
Moreover, the surgery must not only be performed perfectly, but additional surgical techniques are also used.
In a consultation with your Vista Alpina ophthalmologist, your needs and expectations will be clarified, and together the best possible lens option for the patient will be selected.
NZZ am Sonntag: Cataract. New lenses for better vision.
By Felicitas Witte, 31.10.2020
At first, the environment appears blurred and unclear, later colorless, as if through a fog. Light dazzles, driving becomes difficult. Usually, both eyes are affected. The diagnosis: cataract. The older people get, the higher the risk: from age 70, more than every second person has a cataract. Only surgery improves vision. The ophthalmologist removes the cloudy lens and replaces it with an artificial one. To the article.
