The Department of Community and Primary Care Medicine (DMCPR) has the societal mission to provide access to quality care for all through proximity medicine, to ensure the management of minor medical and surgical emergencies, to promote prevention among citizens, to provide medical knowledge for judicial investigations, and to promote the health of travelers.
Job Description
The position aims to support the missions of the DMCPR and the HUG in developing a program to better understand and reduce social inequalities in access to care and care pathways. This position is set in a rich and complex professional environment, marked by great cultural and linguistic diversity, influencing perceptions of the body, health, illness, and citizenship.
Within the context of the DMCPR, which promotes access to care for all, especially for vulnerable populations (undocumented persons, migrants, detainees, etc.), your mission is to coordinate and support aspects of intercultural communication. You accompany and support teams facing situations of intercultural communication and complex care. You identify linguistic needs and implement appropriate strategies (professional interpreters, translation tools, etc.), and ensure institutional coordination with interpretation service providers.
You must also develop projects and practical tools aimed at improving access to care. In this regard, you lead advisory, analysis, and development projects, and contribute to strengthening the skills of HUG professionals on issues related to linguistic and cultural diversity.
You are also expected to conduct qualitative research (ethnographies, observations, interviews) on social health inequalities and disseminate results through publications, conferences, symposia, etc.
In the field of training, you participate in the initial and continuing education of health professionals and university teaching, notably by developing innovative educational tools.
Finally, you autonomously provide quality medical services, both clinically and administratively and organizationally.
Qualifications
To hold this position, you must have a federal medical diploma or an equivalent title recognized by the Federal Commission of Medical Professions (MEBEKO), as well as the right to practice in the canton of Geneva.
A complementary Master’s degree in social sciences is required.
You must have experience practicing medicine with vulnerable populations and confirmed expertise in cultural and linguistic diversity, as well as communication in a multicultural context.
Proven experience in qualitative research with these populations (notably through ethnographic approaches, interviews, and observation) is essential, as well as the ability to conduct independent and interprofessional research.
Solid experience in university teaching and interprofessional training is expected, along with excellent pedagogical skills. Perfect command of French and academic English is required; any other language is an asset.
Additional Information
You will work day, night, and weekend shifts depending on the site or single-post schedule.
You must be mobile to work at the various sites of the mobile penitentiary care team located on both the left and right banks of the canton. It should be noted that you may be called upon to work at another site if needed.
The closed environment requires compliance with the rules of a penitentiary institution.
As part of your recruitment, a police background check will be conducted beforehand.
