Correctional Services and Reintegration (JuWe) is part of the Directorate of Justice and the Interior of the Canton of Zurich and is responsible for penal and measure enforcement as well as the implementation of various types of detention. For our 1,400 employees from around 40 professions, the successful social reintegration of offenders, the prevention of recidivism, and the detention and preparation for departure of persons without a valid residence permit are of particular importance.
The Winterthur Semi-Open Prison (HGW) is one of the enforcement institutions of the Canton of Zurich (VEZ) – one of seven main departments of JuWe – and is an institution specialized in semi-open imprisonment. In addition, places are offered for work external, residential and work external, as well as open enforcement. The HGW provides space for 25 admitted persons.
To complement our team, we are looking for a committed and independent personality by agreement.

This is your field of activity
- Ensuring and enforcing an orderly daily routine within the given daily structures, taking into account legal and operational rules
- Care and counseling of inmates as well as recognizing and managing crisis situations
- Employment of persons detained in the in-house service
- Administrative tasks such as general correspondence, file management, applications, reporting, daily journals, internal reports, conducting interrogations, etc.
- Cell checks regarding order and security, entry and exit controls, alcohol tests, urine samples
- Continuous case management from the initial interview (creation of the residence agreement) to release
- Employment of persons detained in the in-house service
- Interdisciplinary cooperation with prisons and external agencies such as referring authorities, medical service providers, courts, and social offices
This is what you bring
- Completed training as a correctional officer or in a similar social field
- Professional experience in a similar care function desired
- Willingness to work independently in shifts including weekend and night shifts
- High mental and physical resilience, assertiveness, teamwork skills, and confident appearance
- Stable personality with a high degree of social competence
- Confident German language skills in spoken and written form, foreign language skills desired
- Good IT user skills
- Ideal age from 30 years
