Head of Legal Service and Deputy to the State Clerk
The State Chancellery advises and supports the Government Council and the Presidium in fulfilling government tasks. It provides services as a staff unit that ensure the smooth functioning of the Government Council as a collegial authority and acts as an interface between the directorates.
The Legal Service is the legal competence center of the State Chancellery and advises the Government Council on legal matters.
As Deputy to the State Clerk and Head of the Legal Service, you lead the Legal Service with around 10 employees. In the absence of the State Clerk, you attend the meetings of the Government Council and assume deputy duties. Due to the retirement of the current position holder, we are looking for a qualified individual as of June 1, 2026, or by agreement.

Your tasks:
- Professional and personnel management of the Legal Service including the appeals department, the publications department, and the IDG coordination office
- Advising the Government Council on legal matters
- Participation in the processing of government business as well as in the preparation and follow-up of Government Council meetings
- Fulfilling deputy and representative duties of the State Clerk, including attending Government Council meetings
- Member of the steering committee (management) of the State Chancellery
- Legal advice
- Participation in commissions, committees, and working groups
Your profile:
- University degree in law with relevant professional experience
- Proven leadership experience in public administration
- Character integrity, assertiveness, and the ability to mediate conciliatory and factually precise
- Quick comprehension and ability to analyze complex issues and contexts and prepare them appropriately for the target audience
- Service-oriented personality with high presence and social competence, who gladly takes responsibility, is future-oriented and eager to shape
- Very good German skills in spoken and written form, good knowledge of French and English is an advantage
