Your tasks or your new role
Children's construction site (approx. 80%)
During the regular opening hours of the children's construction site (May to September), you support and relieve the team in ongoing operations. You participate in caring for the children and visitors and accompany the children in their construction activities. In addition, you take care of the tool and material depot and, together with the team, ensure the control and safety of the structures. Furthermore, you assist in accompanying external groups (e.g., school classes) and take on various preparatory and follow-up tasks, such as organizing opening hours, caretaker duties, inventory management, orders, as well as setup and dismantling work. In addition, you participate in project meetings, take minutes, and create statistics and journals.
Children's meetings (approx. 20%)
Additionally, you support the professionals during the opening hours of the Children's Meeting East – if necessary, also as a substitute in the center or west of the city – in accompanying the children indoors and outdoors, e.g., cooking, playing, crafting, and working. During the summer holidays, you also help with the implementation of the "Summer Fun" courses, including supervision, co-care of the children, as well as preparatory and follow-up work.
The position suits you if you
- have a craft training or comparable professional experience, e.g., as a carpenter, joiner, or in horticulture
- have basic knowledge of woodworking and experience handling machines such as drills, angle grinders, as well as chop and miter saws
- enjoy working with children and caregivers, especially in the context of craft activities
- work reliably, independently, and responsibly
Good reasons to work for the City of St. Gallen:
Our department and division
Children Youth Family is a specialist office for children and young people between 6 and 26 years old, their caregivers, and other interested adults. It takes on tasks such as counseling, providing information, supporting ideas, and accompanying leisure and meeting offers for children and young people.
The Open Work with Children division is responsible for planning and implementing various low-threshold, participatory, socio-pedagogically supervised leisure activities for children of primary school age. It offers different learning fields for children and supports them in their personal development.
Our corporate culture
You work in an appreciative climate characterized by mutual trust, respect, and loyalty. We promote our employees based on their individual skills and resources.
