Job Description
Introduction:
Are you an experienced internal auditor with a strong background in internal or external auditing looking to take the next step in your career? CERN’s Internal Auditor position offers a unique opportunity to grow and thrive in a collaborative, international environment. You will gain in-depth exposure to a broad and distinctive audit universe while contributing to meaningful, high-impact work, while ensuring alignment with Global Internal Audit Standards.
Join CERN’s Internal Audit Service and help enhance and protect organizational value by providing risk-based, objective assurance and insightful advice that supports CERN in achieving its mission.
Functions:
- Contribute to the development of the annual internal audit plan through risk assessments, and independently perform audits in line with the approved plan.
- Provide expert advice on governance, risk management, internal controls, and process improvements, including support to Departments/Services upon request.
- Produce clear and insightful audit reports, formulate recommendations, facilitate Management’s agreement on proposed actions, and follow up on their implementation.
- Conduct investigations into alleged fraud when required and act as a liaison for the Organization’s External Auditors.
- Lead or contribute to internal audit–related projects and initiatives.
Qualifications
Master's degree or equivalent relevant experience in the field of Auditing, Accounting, Finance or Economics or a related field.
Relevant certifications such as ACCA/CIA/CFE would be highly advantageous.
Experience:
- Demonstrated experience in financial, compliance or performance auditing, using a professional audit methodology.
- Good business acumen demonstrated in an international environment.
- Experience in fraud investigation would be an asset.
- Data analytics and related tools would be an asset.
Technical competencies:
- Assessment of internal control, risk management and governance processes.
- Risks assessment for auditing purposes.
- Performance auditing, as well as financial auditing.
- Compliance auditing, certification of financial statements.
- Forensic auditing.
Behavioural competencies:
- Demonstrating Accountability: working conscientiously and reliably; delivering on promises.
- Learning and Sharing Knowledge: proposing ways to improve or streamline existing procedures, processes and methodologies.
- Communicating Effectively: checking to ensure that the message has been well understood.
- Working in the Interest of the Organization: behaving consistently with CERN's values and goals.
- Solving Problems: assimilating large quantities of information, identifying key issues and formulating conclusions clearly and concisely.
Language skills:
Spoken and written English, with a commitment to learn French.
