About the job
Internship in Human-centered AI for global WASH education (80-100%)
Join us in shaping the future of water, sanitation and solid waste management education. The WASH Learning Lab develops and manages global and context-specific education programs, collaborating closely with Sandec‘s research groups and partners in Africa, Asia, and Latin America. Our work bridges research and education, testing innovations to strengthen WASH (Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene) capacity globally. More information can be found here .
With the rapid emergence of Artificial Intelligence (AI), there is a growing need to systematically assess how these tools can enhance WASH education, particularly in low- and middle-income country contexts. In this internship, you will support the WASH Learning Lab by identifying, reviewing, and practically testing AI-based tools relevant to teaching, learning, and knowledge sharing in WASH. The focus is both analytical and hands-on, bridging educational theory with real-world application.
Your responsibilities:
- Mapping: Systematically review and identify AI tools relevant to WASH education (e.g., automated content adaptation, personalized tutoring, curriculum synthesis, data visualization, etc.)
- Framework Development: Establish evaluation criteria focused on usability, pedagogical efficacy and the ethical implications of AI in diverse cultural contexts
- Applied Testing: Conduct „hands-on“-pilots of selected tools using Sandec’s existing educational portfolio
- Documentation: Create practical workflows and contribute to a guidance document on the responsible integration of AI in WASH education
Your qualifications:
- Currently enrolled at a university or university of applied sciences in Public Health, Education, Digital Learning, or a related field
- Strong proficiency in utilizing AI tools (LLMs, generative media, etc.)
- A keen interest in learning design and digital transformation
- Ability to synthesize complex information into clear, actionable documentation
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
